Train with Care has been rewarded ‘Supplier of the Year’ for Devon & Cornwall Outstanding Care Awards 2019, Bronze Award!
This is a promising achievement for such a young organisation. We are so encouraged by this success to deliver more training in the South West and jointly work with other Care Providers to support those fantastic carers working in the community with children and people with complex needs.
What training can be delivered?
Train with Care Ltd delivers ‘Bespoke Clinical Training’ (to each client):

This training is delivered Face to Face with each carer and the family/client involved. There is a mobile skill -lab where the carer can practice on manikins. Depending on the request and health need we will issue Training Certificates and/or Competencies of the skills which will be signed by the nurse trainer and his/her NMC pin.
The Training Service will also deliver ‘Refresher Training’:
This training is to refresh the skills and re-sign the carers off competently after a year, so Insurances remain covered for people with a Personal Health Budget or Direct Payment. The shape and form of this refresher training depends on the skill to be assessed and the face to face assessments can be accompanied with a workbook an/’or multiple-choice questions and scenarios. All is classroom based and hands on practice & assessments (no E-learning).
To complement the Bespoke training, we also deliver main elements of ‘Mandatory Training’:
The elements delivered are Safeguarding vulnerable adults/ children, Basic Life Support and Manual Handling, Infection Control, First Aid (level 1) and Health & Safety level 1.

Before joining the staff team at The Limes, I was undertaking Domestic duties within Cedar Lodge. This was due to a recent illness that meant that for my own well being I was unable to continue in my role as Deputy Manager at Cedar Lodge. My confidence, to say the least was at a low although, outwardly, others would not be aware of this. Dorothy invited me to attend the unit camping trip to Penzance in the summer of 2018 and, during this time, sowed the seeds of me joining the Limes team. I must admit that at first I was a bit reluctant to undertake a new venture but the more I considered it, the more I thought it may be of benefit to my sense of well being.
Since joining the staff team, Dot has been a constant source of support. She has an open door policy toward all staff and service users, never judges, always encourages learning development, promotes a happy working atmosphere, allows staff the freedom to promote activities with their “key people”, is always open to new ideas regarding improvements that could be made to the environment, encourages service users to devise their own menus and is generally an all round good person.
I would like to add in conclusion, that without her support, I don’t think I would be the person I am now. She has boosted my confidence and self esteem to levels that they were before my illness. She has also enabled my wife to join the team which has also changed her life for the better. If anyone deserves a special award it should be this special Unit Manager
Since I have joined the team at The Limes, Dot has been very supportive has welcomed me with open arms, has been patient and understanding due to the fact that I am a shy person who has, in the past, lacked confidence and self belief. However with her guidance and support I am now partaking in activities that, at one time, I would never have considered.
Dot creates a calm and friendly atmosphere within the Limes which is nice for both service users and staff. She is always willing to give her time if you have a problem and has, in the recent past, changed off duties due to family a crisis at the drop of a hat.
Dot never asks staff to do things they are uncomfortable with and always encourages self development within our job roles at a pace that suits the individual.
I hope that you will look favourably on this statement and give Dot the recognition she deserves.
I started working at the Limes in November 2016, without any previous experience in health and social care, let alone Mental Health.
My first initials thoughts was oh my god what have I got myself into? As I did not at first relate to the manager.
However with the encouragement and gentle support from the Manager (Dot) Dorothy, I was allowed to discovery the world of mental health and health and social care.
Dot has given me hours of support, encouragement, and most of all allowed me to grow as a person.
She never judges, and allows us as staff to manage our key people, and work within a way that meets their needs.
Dorothy (Dot) has an awesome senses of humour, which at times, has allowed me to defuse situations, this has then lead on to full blown laughter from the service user and myself.
Dorothy (Dot) has an infectious personality, even when things are difficult she always comes out smiling and gives her upmost to support everyone.
Personally if it wasn’t for the continuous support From Dot I don’t think I would have stayed, however with her support I am now completing my QCF level 3 in lead adult care worker. ... See more

We have another Special Award Submission from Ola Jance of Cedar Lodge, Taunton. These are all statements of people who have worked with Ola at the care home. (Names of references have been omitted.)
I have worked at Cedar lodge for the past 7 years and have experienced a number of different staff of varying levels.
Even when Ola was a senior she always strives to learn as much as possible, so that she could be the best that she could, for herself, staff and residents.
Since Ola became a deputy manager Cedar lodge has seen many positive changes, all of which are thanks to her great ideas and dedication. Ola has always listened to what is best for both staff and residents and done all that she can to make Cedar lodge a happy home for all/
Over the past 3 years Ola has ensured that everything is done in a person centred way which has in turn changed the whole atmosphere of the home. Residents are empowered and always have there wishes followed. Staff are happy within their job roles and feel valued and listened to. Ola is very supportive and understanding of everyone within their job roles, her compassion and empathy has been heightened due to the fact that she has experienced different job roles from starting as a carer, to senior, to deputy.
Ola has personally helped me in my own journey to pursue a career for myself. When I first began at Cedar lodge I had little aspiration to do much more, but Ola aspired me to do better for myself, resulting in me doing a university degree. Without Ola’s support and constant reassurance I would never have been able to start, let alone complete a university course.
Ola’s courage, positivity and inspiration is not only precious to her but precious to all those who she works with, as it inspires them to be the best that they can be.
Ola is constantly showing care and devotion to our residents, which I believe is one of the most important aspects to have within our home. Not only this, but she is investing time in developing all our colleagues!
To give you a real-life example, I have joined Notaro Homes - Cedar Lodge as a Care Assistant many years ago. I am now in the role of Senior Care Assistant and I genuinely couldn’t have got to where I am now without her support!
She has been paramount in my development from a medication management, care for our residents, support to my fellow colleagues to my personal development, but most importantly because she is constantly carrying on such a great culture within our home when it comes to the care of our residents!
We at Cedar Lodge take great pride in our End of Life Care. Ola has ensured that our residents ‘come first’. Once she organised a Cheese and Wine found raiser to bring, residents, staff and family together and buy specialist bedding to enable our staff nurse our residents in the most comfortable and dignified way possible.
Ola has worked alongside our management towards Gold Standard Frameworks (GSF) And our home has been awarded a Platinum award.
Ola has created a very good relationship with a local funeral director (The Crescent) which has improved our end of life service. ... See more
