Dr Sam Davis - The State of Dementia Care - We Can Do Better

Dr Sam Davis will be joing us at Exeter Golf Club on November the 1st 2018 to share her findings on international studies and is offering a question and answer session to providers or workers that are passionate about Dementia. Dr Sam Davis provides an interactive and thought provoking presentation about supporting people with dementia in different care settings. Based on international research and her team’s Australian research and practice experiences, she explores language and attitudes, physical environments and approaches to support that impact on the well-being of people with dementia. Dr Sam Davis is a Gerontologist and experienced researcher. In the UK she held fellowships at the University of Aberdeen and Sussex University and was a member of the Centre for Gerontology, Keele University until 1997. In Australian, Sam has held positions with the Centre for Ageing Studies (Flinders University), the Centre for Applied Gerontology at the Northern Health Service in Melbourne and Monash University, and for the past 8 years, Head of Department, Applied Gerontology, Flinders University. She has presented at national and international conferences on rural ageing, person-centred care, enabling environments, dementia care and culture change. Dr Davis has received more than four million dollars in funding over the past six years. Her most recent project was to provide dementia care education and resources to the staff and management of the more than 2700 residential aged care homes across Australia.

Phil Sampson is an expert strategist who has a deep understanding of Leadership, Organisational Culture, Incident Management, Cyber Security and Data Protection and how they influence organisational development and future success. He joined the Royal Marines in 1978 having been brought up in Kenya. Phil had a diverse and interesting military career as a counter terrorism expert, he served in Whitehall during the 9/11 attacks and was later seconded to the Security Service where he was prominent in founding the strategically important UK Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre. Whilst there he was the author of the National Security threat levels before working with the US National Counter Terrorist Centre. He later commanded the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines and Royal Marines Tyne. Phil left the Royal Marines in 2009 to found Sampson Hall Ltd, an organisation that delivers success to modern organisations using lessons drawn from the military, Government and business. Today his expertise delivers strategy, leadership, teamwork, cultural change and compliance work into private, third and public sector organisations. He is a dynamic and engaging speaker and facilitator and will lead any group to their chosen end state or desired outcome. Phil has spoken at national and international conferences and events on terrorism, business development, corporate social partnership and international co-operation and has recently led the UK’s Cyber delegation to Mexico talking about his cyber speciality of getting people within organisations to adopt the right attitudes and behaviours to information security and to the IoD in Monaco about the General Data Protection regulations. Phil believes that organisational development and transformation is achieved through the development of people and he has developed proven metrics and analysis tools to enhance and evidence this. These tools help an organisation recognise and develop talent and opportunities that exist within it. As a coach Phil has worked globally with senior leaders in developing their leadership style, personal branding and strategic understanding. He is a performance coach who focuses on delivering the desired outcomes through coaching and mentoring programmes.
